Jakartans enjoy family time at malls on election day

J
akartans enjoyed the election day holiday by gathering with their families at shopping malls amid the tension of the runoff Jakarta gubernatorial election.
Indriati Temmy, 32, a housewife who lives in Pulomas, East Jakarta, visited Plaza Indonesia with her family after voting at 9 a.m. at Polling Station (TPS) 42, near her house.
"We are here: my husband, children, parents and sisters. We use this holiday to spend time together. During the first election, I spent the time out like this with my husband and children," Indriati said.
Rulia, a 41-year-old supervisor of a Japanese restaurant, said their restaurant has been crowded from 30 minutes after it opened at 11 a.m.
"During the first round election, the restaurant was crowded at dinner time. Today, we have had many customers since we opened the restaurant," she said, thanking the closing of groceries stores, which has made people want to eat out with their families.

However, Romeo Ary, a 30-year-old gymnastics trainer, a resident of Kebon Kacang in Central Jakarta, also took his relatives out to eat. "I came here with my mom, brothers and friends. There are seven of us. Usually we cannot match up our schedules to meet like this," he said.
Throughout the day, more and more people frequented the malls. Most of them arrived with their families with purple ink on their finger, which showed they had voted before hanging out with their loved ones. (dra/bbn)
