An Australian tourist was killed in a motorbike accident in Bali early on Thursday morning, police say.

The 26-year-old tourist, identified as Ella Makeesha Knights, was found in a ditch next to a rice field on Jl. Raya Canggu in North Kuta.

"The accident took place at around 3 a.m. in the morning. She was driving alone. It was dark and quiet at the time," Badung Traffic Police chief Adj. Comr. Putu Raka Wiratma said on Thursday.

The engine of Knights’ motorcycle was still running when police came to the location of the accident after being notified by residents.

"We assume the victim lost control of her motorcycle and fell. She fell into a ditch, while her motorcycle was thrown into the rice field,” Wirama said.

Knights stayed at the Litus Rinaya Hotel in North Kuta during her holiday in Bali, he added. "We have coordinated with the [Australian] consulate, and her family has been notified by the consulate.” (ary)
