T

he South Jakarta State Court on Monday postponed the pretrial hearing of former Hanura Party lawmaker Miryam S Haryani, who has been named as a perjury suspect in the mega corruption case regarding the electronic identification card (e-ID) project.

Asiadi Sembiring, the sole judge presiding over the pretrial hearing, postponed the hearing due to the Corruption Eradication Commission’s (KPK) absence. The hearing was only attended by Miryam's lawyers. The judge later decided to continue the hearing on May 15.

Miryam’s lawyer, Aga Khan, said he did not know the reasons behind KPK's absence.

"I do not know why KPK cannot attend the hearing today. If KPK a spokesperson claims they have not received the summons, it's not true. They received the summons on May 2," Aga said on Monday.

KPK spokesperson Febri Diansyah said earlier on Monday that the KPK had not received any summons regarding Miryam's pretrial.

Aga added that he had not been able to meet with Miryam since his client was arrested by KPK on May 2.

Miryam and her lawyers filed a pretrial lawsuit against KPK to the South Jakarta court on April 21. Her lawyers opined that KPK's decision to determine Miryam a suspect of alleged perjury in the e-ID trial was not in accordance with law procedures.

The KPK slapped perjury charges against Miryam after she denied her affidavit during a trial hearing in e-ID corruption case. In the testimonies in front of KPK investigators Miryam named several lawmakers who had accepted bribes from the project. (rdi/wit)
