resident Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered the Tinombala task force to capture the remaining seven members of the notorious East Indonesia Mujahidin terrorist group hiding in the mountainous forest of Poso, Central Sulawesi.
The President gave the instruction during a visit to Palu on Tuesday, Central Sulawesi Police chief Brig. Gen. Rudy Sufahriadi said.
“Jokowi appreciates all of the task force personnel and asked us to focus on the rest of the terrorists,” he said.
Two out of nine alleged members of the MIT were shot dead in a gunfight with security personnel in Poso on Monday. The shoot-out erupted at 12:05 p.m. local time.
The shoot-out was between several members of the group, led by terror suspect Ali Kalora, and personnel of the Tinombala task force in Simpang Angin, Mount Biru, Poso Pesisir district.
The two dead men have been identified as Barok and Askar, both from Bima, West Nusa Tenggara.
The seven remaining MIT members are Ali Muhammad, aka Ali Kalora; Muhammad Faisal, aka Namnung; Qatar, aka Farel; Nae, aka Galuh; Basir, aka Romzi; Abu Alim; and Kholid.
Monday’s shoot-out began when the task force was patrolling the area and saw four armed men in shelter. Suspecting they were MIT members, the security personnel tried to arrest them. However, the men opened fire, which led to the shoot-out. (foy/rin)
