Four people are dead after a crash involving a train and a car took place in Grobogan, Central Java, on Saturday morning.
The speeding Argo Bromo Anggrek hit a Toyota Avanza at a railroad crossing with no warning device located near Sedadi Station in Nagrok village, Toroh district, Grobogan, at 10:30 a.m., local time.
The car was dragged around 500 meters and set ablaze. The four passengers in the car died at the location. They are Agus Bambang, 60, Bahtiar, 30, and Ngadikan, 58, all residents of the Dinar Mas residential complex in Semarang. Another victim, Agus Abdullah, 54, was a resident of Ketileng in Semarang.
The train, operated by machinist Ari and his assistant, M. Agus, was traveling from the Pasar Turi Station in Surabaya, East Java, to Gambir Station in Jakarta.
State-owned railway company PT KAI operational region (Daop) IV Semarang head Edy Koeswoyo said the accident took place at an illegal railroad crossing that had no guardrails.
Edy said KAI workers removed the bodies from the wreckage of the Toyota Avanza at 1:30 p.m. The Agro Bromo Anggrek then continued on to Jakarta. (ebf)
