tarting next year, children in the capital must obtain a child ID (KIA) in an effort to boost efficiency in civil and public services, an official said on Friday.
Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency head Edison Sianturi said the agency would disseminate information on the card at hospitals and schools to reach the agency’s target of providing the cards to 300,000 children this year.
“In 2019, all of them will be required to have a KIA, which will be a requirement to register in hospitals or schools,” Edison said as quoted by tribunnews.com on Friday.
Based on Home Ministerial Regulation No.2/2016 on IDs for children, the ministry began issuing IDs to all Indonesian children in March last year.
The IDs will be divided into two categories, namely IDs for children under 5 years old and for those aged between 5 and 17 years old.
For newborns, civil registry offices are set to issue IDs along with their birth certificates.
To obtain a KIA, parents are required to submit several documents, such as their child’s birth certificate, to the agency. (cal)
