T

he Central Java Police arrested a man for carrying a knife while breaking into their headquarters at 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning, just two days after two Islamic State (IS) group supporters stabbed to death a police officer at a North Sumatra Police post in the morning before Idul Fitri prayers began on Sunday.

The Central Java Police have said the infiltrator, identified as MR, did not bring any valid form of identification, but the police found two IDs that did not belong to him. The police also confiscated two kitchen knives and a utility cutting knife from MR.

“Patrolling Mobile Brigade members spotted the suspicious man. They arrested him. He said his name was MR, 32 years old, from Blitar, East Java,” Central Java Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Djarod Padakova said in Semarang in Central Java on Tuesday.

It remains unclear if the incident is terror-related.

“The suspect said he walked from city to city as a beggar. He was also once detained by Satpol Pamong Praja [public order officers] in Jakarta in a beggar-sweeping raid. We have detained him to further examine this case,” Djarod said.

On Sunday at 3 a.m., two perpetrators snuck into the Checkpoint 3 post and stabbed to death a resting police officer with the North Sumatra Police. (ary)
