adulako University in Palu, Central Sulawesi, in cooperation with the Home Ministry, has launched a deradicalization studies center as part of a government program to fight terrorism.

“We have established the Center for Deradicalization Development and Socio-Academics, which is led by Rahmat Bakri,” said rector Muhammad Basir in Palu on Monday.

The center is part of the central government’s program to develop deradicalization studies at the university level. Tadulako University is one of 63 universities nationwide participating in the program.

“There were two other universities that signed an agreement with the ministry [to establish a deradicalization center], namely Hasanuddin University [in Makassar, South Sulawesi] and Halu Oleo University [in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi],” Basir said.

The center will play a strategic role in promoting national unity and promoting the national ideology of Pancasila. Leaders of all student organizations are required to pass a training session at the center. As young leaders, they must have good character and promote tolerance, he said.
