ehicle owners stood in a long line at the Vehicle Document Registration Center (Samsat) on Jl. Panjaitan in East Jakarta on Thursday morning, the last day to pay late vehicle taxes and vehicle ownership transfer fees (BBNKB) without paying penalties.
The Jakarta Tax Agency set July 19 to Aug. 31 as the vehicle tax amnesty period.
“It has been like this for three days,” Malik, a parking attendant at the Samsat, said as quoted by kompas.com.
Benyamin, who had been at the office since 7 a.m., finished paying his motorcycle tax at 11:56 p.m.
He said he only paid Rp 600,000 (US$45) for two years worth of tax dues.
Meanwhile, the West Jakarta Samsat is targeting 335 cars from several car rental companies that had yet to pay their vehicle taxes and BBNKB.
West Jakarta Samsat BBNKB head Elling Hartono said the potential tax revenue from the rental cars in Kebon Jeruk and Cengkareng districts was Rp 754 million.
The Jakarta administration tried to catch up with a tax revenue target of Rp 35.2 trillion, 30 percent from vehicle-related taxes. It has collected Rp 20.6 trillion.
There are 4 million vehicles in the city with unpaid taxes, according to the administration. The amount owed reaches Rp 1.6 trillion. (hol)
