A

resident of West Jakarta was crushed to death by his own car after he forgot to apply the hand brake while parking on a downhill road.

The accident took place at 5:10 p.m. on Saturday, Cengkareng Police crime unit head Adj. Comr. Poltar L. Gaol said.

Kwang Penk, 59, had apparently turned on the engine of his car at his home in the Melati residential complex in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, when he noticed water dripping from the car’s engine. He then got out of the vehicle to check it.

“At that time, the car was moving on its own, because he had parked on a downhill road without turning on the hand brake. He got off and was looking down in front of the car [while the car was]was] running toward him,” Poltar said on Saturday, as quoted by kompas.com.

A doctor said Kwang had died of blood loss, as he had suffered a 20-centimeter wound below his right knee, Poltar added. (cal)
