akarta Police, together with the military police and transportation agency, will conduct a joint operation to crack down on the illegal use of rotator lightbars, sirens and rotating lights.

The joint operation will be conducted for one month starting Oct. 11.

"Law No. 22/2009 on traffic and land transportation regulate the use of rotator lightbars and sirens," Jakarta Police traffic unit chief Adj. Sr. Comr. Budiyanto said on Wednesday.

He explained that according to the law, red, blue and yellow lights were to only be used by priority vehicles. Meanwhile, yellow lights should not be used with a siren and only be used for road patrols, maintenance and cleaning of public facilities, towing vehicles and special barrage transport.

Budiyanto said vehicles found using rotator lightbars and sirens illegally could be charged under multiple articles of the Traffic Law. He said violators could face a maximum one month in jail or an Rp 250,000 (US$18.5) fine. (dis)
