From Oct. 18 to 22, Indian Naval ships Tir and Sujata visited Jakarta to promote friendship and cooperation between the two countries’ naval forces, the Indian Embassy said in a statement.
Tir and Sujata were also accompanied by sail training ship Sudarshini and Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sarathi. The four vessels were part of the Indian Navy’s sail training squadron.
They were docked at Tanjung Priok port, North Jakarta, and open to the public on Oct. 21.
The squadron’s main mission is to train members of the navy and coastguard officers in seamanship.
“The primary aim of the squadron is to impart sea training to naval and coast guard trainees. All the trainees are trained in seamanship, navigation, ship handling, boat work and various technical aspects,” the embassy said.
The top brass of India’s Southern Naval Command also visited Jakarta last week and met with their Indonesian counterparts.
The Southern Naval Command, a training command of the Indian Navy, provides basic and advanced training to officers and sailors of the Indian Navy.
