usinesses need to be involved in discussions if the Jakarta administration insists that private sector workers use public transportation on Wednesdays.
Technical policy must be devised carefully, including the working hours, chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) faction at the City Council, William Aditya Sarana, said on Saturday.
“We can also give the private sector a slot for free [public transportation] but with conditions. For example, staggering working hours to reduce traffic congestion,” William said during a discussion on the first 100 days of the Jakarta governor, held in Central Jakarta on Saturday, as quoted by kompas.com.
He said private companies that take part in the public transportation policy on Wednesdays could start their working day at 10 a.m. and go home later in the evening.
This scheme could avoid passenger crowding during rush hour.
“For example, office A could take Transjakarta for free, start working at 10 a.m. but finish the job in the evening,” William said.
“Details like this need to be checked thoroughly.”
