wo days after Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) personnel demolished buildings on the West Flood Canal inspection road in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, residents began to rebuild semi-permanent dwellings on Wednesday.
The squatters were seen arriving with carts to erect wooden shacks and tarpaulins on Jl. Inspeksi at around 10:42 a.m.
One of them, Nie, said she only built a place to take a rest after scavenging trash.
"We are just building a place to rest after scavenging. It can be dismantled again," Nie told wartakota.tribunnews.com on Wednesday.
No supervision was conducted of the area after the clearance.
On Monday, 132 shacks along the road were cleared by Satpol PP personnel based on an order from the Central Jakarta administration to revitalize the area, which has been occupied by squatters for years. (yon)
