fficials from the West Jakarta subdistrict of Duri Utara have identified as Udjan Susanto a 74-year-old homeless man reportedly abandoned by his child living nearby.

Udjan’s child allegedly abandoned the father out of embarrassment after receiving complaints from neighbors who felt disturbed by the old man.

The officials who found Udjan reported the case to the West Jakarta Social Affairs Agency, which sent its social treatment, observation and control (P3S) taskforce to the location.

P3S officer Amir said Friday that Udjan had been found in a sick and dirty condition and sleeping above a gutter, as quoted by kompas.com.

Amir said Udjan had been sleeping out on the street in front of SD Widuri Indah for four days. The officers, he added, had contacted but failed to persuade his child to take care of Udjan. The child reportedly refused to acknowledge Udjan as their father.

The P3S officers then coordinated with Emergency Ambulance 112 from the health agency and brought Udjan to the Tarakan Hospital in Central Jakarta to receive medical treatment.

Amir said Udjan had three children. Besides the child who lives in Duri Utara, he has a child in Depok, West Java, and another who lives outside of Jakarta. (rdi)
