F

loods hit an underpass at the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) headquarters in Cawang, East Jakarta with waters reaching 60 centimeters after heavy rains on Tuesday afternoon.

Access to Halim Perdanakusuma Airport and the Indonesian Christian University (UKI) was also obstructed because of inundation, kompas.com reported.

“The floods began around 4 p.m.,” said a worker from the East Jakarta Water Management Agency, Ari, on Tuesday.

Three pumps have been used to siphon the water away since 4.30 p.m. Ari said the floods were caused by clogged drains.

Meanwhile, a meeting room at the Jakarta Legislative Council building in Central Jakarta began leaking.

The council secretary Muhammad Yuliadi was surprised by the leakage.

He said it would be fixed shortly as funds for repairing the building were available.

“We have a maintenance budget to fix it [the leaking roof],” Yuliadi said. (wnd)
