Cashless payment service T-Cash introduced at Mayestik Market

T Telkomsel, in cooperation with JAKmikro, a financial technology startup, has introduced digital payment service T-Cash at Mayestik Market to encourage small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to go cashless.
Telkomsel president Ririek Adriansyah said in Jakarta on Tuesday that the cashless program at the market, which is owned by the Jakarta administration, was part of an effort to promote a digital economy.
“The program will make transactions easier, faster and more secure for both vendors and customers,” he said after a ceremony to mark the start of the program at the market.
Customers can access the service by downloading JAKmikro's T-Cash app on their smartphones. They can use the app to scan QR codes located at every stall in the market, while vendors can view a record of transactions made using the app.
“We are committed to empowering the people's economy through digitalizing the SMEs, which basically are the strings of our economic wheels," said JAKmikro president director Debbie Sianturi at the event, which was inaugurated by Communications and Information Minister Rudiantara.
The program set a target to involve 500,000 SMEs in Jakarta by the end of 2018, 100,000 of which operate under city-owned market operator PD Pasar Jaya.
"Starting off, we have already managed to reach 54 sellers in Mayestik Market from a total of 120 sellers," Debbie said, adding that the program would also target SMEs outside of Jakarta. (srs/bbn)
