View all search resultsThe Yogyakarta police are set to deploy 1,700 of its personnel to secure Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations.
“The police in each regency and district will also deploy extra personnel to enforce security,” said Yogyakarta Police chief Brig.Gen. Ahmad Dofiri as reported by Antara on Wednesday.
More than 60 percent of the total police force in Yogyakarta would contribute to safeguarding the festivities, he added. Additional forces comprising military personnel, Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) members and volunteers of several mass organizations, are ready to give assistance.
“We are focusing our attention on securing 352 churches in Yogyakarta,” said Ahmad, noting that the police would prioritize the churches with the largest congregations.
“We aim to provide peace and safety for those who celebrate Christmas and other people who wish to enjoy the end-of-year holiday. We are 100 percent ready,” he said. (vla/ebf)
