The Jakarta Environment Agency will deploy 5,000 personnel next week to clear the capital of trash from New Year celebrations.
"We have prepared the personnel and by 6 a.m. [on Jan. 1], Jakarta will be clear of any trash," Jakarta Environment Agency head Isnawa Adji said on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
The agency's workers would take the streets at around 2 a.m., he added.
They will concentrate their work on busy areas and entertainment spots, such as Jl. Sudirman and Jl. MH Thamrin in South and Central Jakarta, respectively.
The agency would also require vendors celebrating New Year to prepare trash bags "to reduce the amount of trash scattered on the streets," Isnawa said. (fac)
