A

chain collision involving a Metro Mini, car and two motorbikes in Velbak, Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta, on Friday has left one person dead.

One of the motorbike drivers, FX Febrianto, 49, died on the scene, while another unidentified motorbike driver was severely injured and treated at the Muhammadiyah Women’s and Children Hospital in Gandaria, South Jakarta.

According to eye witnesses, two Metro Mini drivers had been racing each other at high speed. One of the Metro Mini drivers lost control and crashed into an Avanza car, dragging the car and crashing into two motorbike drivers parked in front of a hotel before hitting a roadblock.

Febrianto, who was sitting on his motorbike, died instantly.

South Jakarta Police chief Comr. Mardiaz Kusin Dwihananto said the two motorcycles were severely damaged, while the front windows of the Metro Mini were shattered. "As for now, we will hold the vehicles as evidence," he said. (dpk)
