The administration initially planned to mark Christmas at JIEXPO Kemayoran, Central Jakarta, on Jan.5 but postponed it until Jan.13.
“People will still be on holiday on Jan.5,” said Mental and Spiritual Bureau head Hendra Hidayat on Thursday as quoted by kompas.com.
The celebration is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m., he added.
The planned celebration triggered a debate as the administration previously planned to hold it at the National Monument (Monas) Park in Central Jakarta, but churches opposed the plan.
The Indonesian Communion of Churches (PGI) announced that Christmas celebrations would be held by individual churches and that their congregations would not participate in the Jakarta administration’s celebration.
The city administration then changed the venue to JIEXPO Kemayoran. (wnd)
