akarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno has announced that the city administration will establish two new heroes’ cemeteries in the next two years as Kalibata Heroes Cemetery in South Jakarta is almost full.

The new cemeteries will be located in Tegal Alur, West Jakarta, and Rorotan in North Jakarta.

“The Tegal Alur cemetery is ready to accommodate roughly 2,300 bodies this year, while the 22-hectare cemetery in Rorotan will be ready to use in 2019,” Sandiaga said Friday after attending a meeting with Social Affairs Minister Khofifah Indar Parawansa to discuss the matter.

Khofifah said separately that the new cemeteries were needed to accommodate an estimated 300 bodies every year. “We discussed the issue with the Jakarta administration in the hope that it can provide empty land for new heroes’ cemeteries,” said the minister.

The graves of more than 7,000 notable heroes, such as former vice president Adam Malik and revolutionist Ahmad Yani, are located at Kalibata cemetery.
