The Jakarta administration has allocated Rp 3.4 trillion (US$255 million) from its 2018 budget to flood mitigation projects.

“The biggest allocation of Rp 1.3 trillion will be for the Water Resource Agency, which will be in charge of land acquisition [for river restoration projects],” Water Resource Agency Head Teguh Hendarwan said, as quoted by kompas.com on Friday.

He added that the city would focus on land acquisition along the rivers of Ciliwung, Pesanggaran and Sunter.

“We will focus on land owners who hold land certificates and girik [customary land appointment certificates],” he added.

Another Rp 800 billion are to be spent on the development of sewerage systems and waterways, Rp 552 billion on sewerage maintenance, Rp 278 billion on embankment construction, Rp 217 billion on pump maintenance and Rp 90.5 billion on reservoir construction.

The remaining funds will be allocated for heavy equipment procurement, embankment infrastructure and facilities maintenance, pump procurement, absorption well development, reservoir maintenance and other purposes. (roi)
