Muhamad Farid Husen, an 18-year-old Indonesian student, has won a medal design competition for the upcoming Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games, which will be played in Buenos Aires from Oct. 6 to 18, with representatives from 206 countries, including Indonesia, participating. The competition’s committee announced the winner on Jan. 31 through its website olympic.org.

According to a press release by the committee made available to The Jakarta Post, Muhamad is the youngest participant in the competition since it was organized for the first time in 2010. The competition had 300 participants from across the globe. Out of the large number of participants, Muhamad’s design was the panel’s favorite.

“Muhamad’s fireworks design touches athletes’ hearts; its illustration depicts how an individual is celebrated with fireworks when he or she wins a competition,” said the statement from a panel member as quoted by the press release.

“To me, fireworks represents a joyful sentiment as well as the expression of happiness; fireworks exploding in the sky depicts how young athletes are doing their best to achieve their dreams,” Muhamad said.
