T

he Jakarta Police plan to question Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan over his controversial repurposing of Jl. Jatibaru Raya in Central Jakarta, which he had closed for motorists to accommodate street sellers.

"[Once] the letter ordering the start of an investigation is issued, we will summon [Anies]," Jakarta Police special crimes unit head Sr. Comr. Adi Deriyan said on Tuesday, as quoted by tribunnews.com. He added that the letter may be issued as early as this week.

The investigators, Adi said, would also summon Jack Boyd Lapian, secretary-general of the Cyber Indonesia community organization, who reported Anies to the force on Feb. 22, accusing the governor of violating regulations on roads.

Jack said Anies’s decision had done more harm than good.

Previously, the Jakarta Police traffic directorate has recommended that the administration repeal the policy, as it exacerbated congestion in the area. (fac)
