he Bogor Police’s traffic division in West Java will close and divert traffic for the Cap Go Meh lantern festival, the climax of Chinese New Year celebrations, on Friday, from 3 p.m. to 12 a.m.

Police traffic division chief Comr. Bramastyo Priaji said the plan would be carried out according to traffic conditions.

Traffic from Jl. Siliwangi to Jl. Suryakencana and Aut Alley, the route of the parade of Chinese deities, will be diverted if the flow to Jl. Otista is gridlocked. Vehicles from Tugu Kujang will be directed to Internusa.

Vehicles traveling to the Cap Go Meh folk festival may pass through the Baranangsiang route to Ekalokasari, and to the Lawang Gintung-Pahlawan-Empang route, and BTM. Bogor residents looking to avoid traffic are advised to not use the routes.

Thousands of people are expected to crowd the celebration to mark the 15th day after Chinese New Year. The new year starts with the new moon on the first day of the first lunar month and ends on the full moon 15 days later, which is marked by a lantern festival.

Besides the parade of Chinese deities and other traditional Cap Go Meh rituals,  the festival will also showcase traditional art performances from West Java, Central Java, Madura, West Sumatra as well as Jakarta native Betawi arts, travel.kompas.com reported. (jlm)
