T

he Central Jakarta District Court has rejected a lawsuit filed by the owner of a gas station (SPBU) on Jl. Pramuka in Matraman, East Jakarta, against city administration.

SPBU owner Nina Usman filed a lawsuit against the city administration as she claimed that the later carried out the Matraman underpass project without informing residents about it first. Nina also said she suffered financial losses because of the construction.

Jakarta High Prosecutor's Office spokesperson Nirwan Nawawi said in a press statement that the judges rejected the lawsuit because the plaintiff could not prove that the administration did not provide information.

“The financial losses suffered by the plaintiff is a rational matter that did not only affect the plaintiff but also other businesses,” Nirwan said.

He added that the underpass was a public good as it reduced traffic congestion. Therefore, the SPBU owner should accept the loss, as the public’s interest should be placed above an individual's interest.
