The number of people killed by the consumption of bootleg liquor in Cengkareng, West Jakarta, has increased to eight.
One of the victims, identified as Rian Hidayat, was pronounced dead following hospitalization at Cengkareng General Hospital (RSUD), wartakota.tribunnews.com reported on Tuesday.
In addition to the eight reported deaths, one other victim who also partook in a bootleg liquor party is in critical condition and is now hospitalized at RSUD.
Previously, six men died in East Cengkareng after drinking bootleg liquor, the latest victims of the dangerous beverage in recent months.
The West Jakarta Police are still investigating whether the case involved a network of bootleg liquor producers.
In April, over 80 people died in Greater Jakarta and West Java after drinking spiked liquor, prompting the police to launch a major crackdown on its sale. (rfa)
