entral Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo, who is seeking another term in office, said voters in the province were mature enough to accept any results in regional elections held on Wednesday.
“The people of Central Java are united, tolerant and peaceful,” said Ganjar after casting his vote with his wife, Siti Atikoh, at polling station (TPS) 2 in Gajahmungkur, Semarang, on Wednesday.
He said it would be a pity if the people of Central Java were divided by racial or religious issues.
The incumbent stated that, should he win the gubernatorial race, he would be ready to let people join his administration despite political differences.
“I had an experience back in 2013, after one or two years of serving as the governor, when people came out and confessed to me: ‘Sir, I didn't vote for you’," he said.
"I replied: ‘That’s okay’. If you don't vote for me in the next election, that will be okay too for me, because I respect your choice, especially if our political parties are different,” he went on.
Ganjar further said people of different political parties had voted for him in the previous gubernatorial election.
"This shows that all individuals are independent enough to cast their vote. So, there will be shifts -- supporters of certain parties might go to the opposite side, left or right. That means parties do not give a 100 percent support to their own candidate. For me, that's what we're going to face and accept," Ganjar said. (stu/ebf)
