ity-owned developer PT Jakarta Propoertindo (Jakpro) will open Light Rail Transit (LRT) Corridor 1 on Aug. 10. The route connects Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta to Velodrome, East Jakarta.

“Jakpro and Wika [state-owned construction company and main contractor of the project] and the Transportation Ministry’s Railway Directorate General have agreed to begin the LRT’s operation on Aug. 10,” said Jakpro executive director Dwi Wagyu Daryoto, as quoted by kompas.com on Sunday.

Jakpro and the Transportation Ministry are currently speeding up the construction of additional facilities and the certification proceedings.

“We’re finishing the LRT’s facilities such as escalators and elevators,” Dwi added.

“Wika said the construction will be completed on July 31, although the Transportation Ministry said that we don’t need to rush because we have to ensure safety.”

However, Dwi said the company had yet to decide the LRT’s ticket price. (vla)
