ylviana Murni, the former senior civil servant who ran in the 2017 Jakarta gubernatorial election with Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, has set her sights on the Regional Representatives Council (DPD) election next year.

With 34 years experience serving the city administration, Sylviana said she would be able to contribute her knowledge to develop the capital.

“I know what is needed by the Jakarta residents. If they criticize the city administration, I can give solutions,” Sylviana said as quoted by kompas.com on Friday.

While many believe the DPD’s authority is limited, Sylviana said she would make the maximum contribution to the city's development.

“I had limited power when I was a civil servant, but I used my authority optimally,” she added.

Sylviana was a former Jakarta governor assistant for culture and tourism before deciding to run as deputy gubernatorial candidate alongside gubernatorial candidate Agus in the last election.

The pair lost in the first round, with Anies Baswedan and Sandiaga Uno defeating Basuki “Ahok” Tjahaja Purnama and Djarot Saiful Hidayat in the second round.

Currently, Sylviana serves as deputy head of the 2018 Indonesia Asian Para Games Organizing Committee. (cal)
