"The Perpres is ready. It will be signed and launched by the President, hopefully this month," Darmin said at Bogor Palace in West Java on Tuesday.
The new regulation will require the use of B20 by both subsidized and non-subsidized diesel vehicles. Currently, B20 is only mandatory for vehicles that used Solar-branded subsidized diesel fuel.
According to Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry data, Solar consumption is around 15 million kiloliters (kl) per year. Meanwhile, the consumption of non-subsidized diesel fuel, commonly used by ships, electric generators and mining equipment, reached 16.2 million kl per year.
Darmin said by expanding the use of B20, the government hoped to decrease fuel imports by 3.5 million kl to 4.5 million kl per year, which was important for cutting the current account deficit. "But it will be difficult to achieve that target within the next six months," Darmin said. (bbn)
