Toyota and Daihatsu have on several occasions collaborated to produce twin cars
oyota and Daihatsu have on several occasions collaborated to produce twin cars. We have had the Avanza and Xenia, Rush and Terios, Calya and Sigra, and Agya and Ayla. The collaboration between the two Japanese carmakers, which in Indonesia are sister companies, is set to continue; there is a possibility, however, that the next cars born out of the collaboration will not share the same physical appearance.
“For the next one, the models will not share the same design. There is that possibility. We are thinking about doing things differently,” said executive general manager of automotive firm Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) Fransiscus Soerjopranoto in Bintaro, South Tangerang, on Monday.
In the previous collaborations, Toyota and Daihatsu’s twin cars could be said to be close to 100 percent similar to one another. The differences were to be seen only in the emblems and features. But moving forward, Soerjo said the products might be different not only in design but also regarding the platform.
“For example, look at smartphones. We have Oppo on the one side and Samsung on the other. It’s pretty much like that,” Soerjo said as quoted by kompas.com.
