T

he Jakarta administration started revitalization work on three footbridges on Jl. Sudirman, South Jakarta on Thursday and closed two Transjakarta bus stops to make way for the project.

The three footbridges being repaired are those at the Senayan traffic circle, Gelora Bung Karno and Polda Metro Jaya, which are all used as main pedestrian access to Transjakarta bus stops situated in the middle of the thoroughfare.

Bina Marga road agency is closing the Polda Metro Jaya and Senayan traffic circle bus stops during the construction. But Transjakarta bus passengers will still be able to access the Gelora Bung Karno bus stop.

As a replacement, the administration would set up a zebra crossing so that people could still access the bus stops while the project was ongoing, the agency acting head Hery Suwondo said.

“The closure is needed because we need to dismantle the roof and railing of the bridge,” Imam Adi Nugraha, a Jakarta Bina Marga official said on Wednesday as quoted by kompas.com.

“But for the date of the closure, we’re still waiting from the Transport Agency and PT Transjakarta.”

The three bridges would be equipped with elevators for people with disabilities, CCTV cameras and also decorated with colorful lighting, he added. The agency has also designed the bridges to be iconic and stand out on the road.

The administration will use compensation funds paid by PT Permadani Khatulistiwa Nusantara, for adding more floors on its building than the initial plan, for a renovation that is expected to be finished by December. (ris)
