P

rosecutors have demanded that five minors accused of beating to death Haringga Sirla, 23, in Bandung, West Java, on Sept. 23, be imprisoned.

Haringga, a fan of Persija Jakarta soccer club was beaten to death by fans of rival team Persib Bandung prior to a match between the two clubs.

Prosecutor Edi demanded that two minors, identified only as S and AAP, be sentenced to five years in prison; TD to four years, AF to three years and six months and NSF to three years in prison.

Edi argued that the five minors had used violence that resulted in death, in violation of the Criminal Code.

“Among the incriminating factors was that the accused continued their violence even though the victim could no longer [fight back]. Their behavior has shocked society,” he said after the trial hearing at Bandung District Court on Friday.

The court’s general crimes division head, Agus Khausal Alam, said the team of prosecutors had considered trial facts, testimony, documents and reports.

According to Agus, the minors admitted kicking and stamping on the victim’s head.

“That’s also another incriminating factor. The postmortem report revealed that among the causes of his death were broken bones and brainstem injuries,” he said.

The defendants’ lawyer, Dadang Sukmawijaya criticized the jail sentence sought by prosecutors.

“Imprisonment should be the last option,” he said.

Dadang added that the prosecutors had failed to consider the fact that the minors had been influenced by others.

In a separate trial in the same case, the panel of judges sent two teenagers to three years and three years and six months, respectively, in prison for committing violence resulting in the death of Haringga. (swd)
