ndonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Indah Cahya Sari Jamil, as well as Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto and Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, made it to the BWF World Junior Championships badminton tournament on Friday.

In Friday’s outing, Leo and Indah defeated Chia Wei Jie and Ee Wei Toh of Malaysia 21-12, 21-17 at the Markham Pan Am Center in Ontario, Canada, while Rehan and Siti trashed Malaysian pair Choong Hon Jian and Pearly Koong Le Tan 21-10, 21-17.

In Saturday’s semifinals, Leo and Indah, as well as Rehan and Fadia, will respectively face China’s Shang Yichen and Zhang Shuxian as well as South Korea’s Wang Chan and Na Eun Jeon, who defeated their compatriots in the quarterfinals.

The two Indonesian losing pairs fought to their limit only to find out their opponents were better. Shang and Zhang stopped Pramudya Kusumawardana Riyanto and Ribka Sugiarto 21-15, 24-22 in Friday’s bout, while Wang and Na humbled Ghifari Anandaffa Prihardika and Lisa Ayu Kusumawati 21-16, 12-21, 30-28 in a 1 hour and 9 minute duel.

Looking at the semifinal, Rehan said in a statement the pair would try to relax and just enjoy the match. “For me personally, it’s my last year as a junior player. I don’t want to burden myself [with a high target].”

In the meantime, Indonesia’s men’s doubles pairs Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin, as well as Dwiki Rafian Restu and Bernadus Bagas Kusma Wardana, were stopped in the quarterfinals. (nkn)
