akarta residents who are injured or suffer material loses from falling trees can request compensation from the city’s Forestry Agency.
To be compensated, they are required to take a picture of the incident and report it to the police.
“Submit the pictures and the police report [to the agency],” Jakarta Forestry Agency acting head Susi Marsitawati said on Tuesday, as quoted by kompas.com.
The amount of compensation will depend on the severity of the injury or damage to vehicles or property.
“There have been three [victims of falling trees that have requested compensation from the agency] including a car owner hit by a falling tree in Central Jakarta,” she said.
Last week, trees in several spots in Central Jakarta and East Jakarta reportedly fell during heavy rains, damaging Transjakarta buses, taxis, cars, motorcycles and buildings.
Furthermore, the agency will assess around six million trees across the city.
“Starting next year, we will assess [the condition of] 6 million trees in Jakarta,” Susi said.
“If [the tree is] frail, we will replace it with a new one. We will measure [the tree] with a tool called USG trees,” she said, adding that the agency had anticipated the potential for falling trees this year by tree topping. (sau)
