The North Jakarta administration plans to hold a fish grilling competition near Sunter Lake to celebrate New Year's Eve.

North Jakarta deputy mayor Ali Maulana Hakim said the seaside location of the municipality had inspired the administration.

“Because North Jakarta is close to the sea and it’s iconic. We are home to fishermen so we will make an event that reflects that,’ Ali said on Monday at his office as quoted by kompas.com.

Ali said that each community unit (RW) would be able to send three representatives to compete. They will compete at the subdistrict and district levels before entering the municipal level, with the final competition to be held at Sunter Lake from the afternoon until midnight.

“We will hold the champions ceremony on that day and all representatives from the RWs will be invited,” Ali said, adding that professional chefs would be invited to be judges.

The champion will win an electric motorbike. In addition to a fish cooking competition, other forms of entertainment will also be provided.

A similar competition has been held annually for the past two years in North Jakarta. (fac)
