Greater Jakarta: City harvests endemic ‘duku condet’

Jakarta’s endemic duku condet (lanzones) trees finally bore fruit at the Condet Fruit Reserve in Balekambang, Kramat Jati, East Jakarta, which was celebrated by locals and Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan.Anies and several other city officials celebrated the harvest on a visit to the 3.3-hectare plot, which had been repurposed to preserve Jakarta’s endemic fruit, including duku condet and salak condet (snake fruit).“Alhamdulillah [thank God] we have just harvested duku condet. This is something unique in Jakarta, which is full of buildings,” Anies told reporters on Thursday.He said his administration and local residents worked hard to preserve Jakarta’s endemic fruit such as duku and salak, which is currently only produced in small numbers, at the reserve.Anies added that it also served as an agritourism site, which residents could visit, interact with and learn about nature.He ...
