S

tate-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura (AP) II apologized on Tuesday following a breakdown on the SkyTrain connecting terminals in Soekarno-Hatta International Airport the previous day.

The breakdown, which occurred on Monday at 2.30 p.m. and was caused by a power outage, forced hundreds of passengers off the train between Terminal 3 and Terminal 2. They were evacuated from the cars by airport staff, having to walk along the track to the nearest terminal.

A technical team soon fixed the problem and the SkyTrain resumed operation around 30 minutes after the stoppage.

Yado Yarismano, spokesperson of PT Angkasa Pura II said the train underwent weekly maintenance checks, but he understood the frustration of passengers.

“We apologize to passengers for the inconvenience. We will conduct an evaluation to prevent a similar incident in the future,” he told The Jakarta Post on Tuesday.

The airport's first-ever SkyTrain, or automated people mover system (APMS), was officially launched in September 2017. It can transport 528 passengers per trip, free of charge. (das)
