ormula Two driver Sean Gelael, who drives for the KFC Jagonya Ayam racing team, urged racing enthusiasts to hold safety above all else by practicing their driving skills on circuits and racing tracks instead of highways.
“Don’t compromise with safety. Racing is a high-risk [activity], so a circuit and a set of proper equipment are highly recommended for racing enthusiasts,” he said during a meet and greet at the Pertamax Turbo Ultimate Experience Porsche Series held at the Sentul International Circuit in West Java on Saturday.
Sean’s father, Richardo Gelael, was also known as a professional racer and is now running a Kentucky Fried Chicken franchise business and a supermarket. The 1996-born racer also shared a few racing tips and tricks. He then invited basketball players Katon Aji from Pelita Jaya and Rizal Falconi from Satria Muda Pertamina to race against him in a karting exhibition.
“The two athletes’ enthusiastic participation in this event is deeply praised. Now they know how challenging it is to race,” Sean said as quoted in a press statement sent to The Jakarta Post.
Sean started his career in karting. He won first place in the Asian Karting Open Championship in 2011. In 2017 and 2018, he became a test driver for the Formula One Scuderia Toro Rosso Honda team.
