BI will coordinate with banks and related institutions/authorities to ensure undisrupted and secured cash and non-cash payment systems for the public.
ank Indonesia (BI) has assured that its payment systems and monetary operations are continuing to run normally despite severe flooding that has inundated Greater Jakarta since Tuesday night.
“To anticipate the weather conditions, BI will coordinate with banks and related institutions/authorities to ensure undisrupted and secured cash and non-cash payment systems for the public,” it said in a statement on Thursday.
“BI will also ensure that monetary and money market operations are carried out smoothly to keep liquidity and economic stability [in check],” it added.
The central bank assured that the BI real time gross settlement (BI-RTGS) and BI national clearing system (SKNBI) would operate normally.
The BI scripless securities settlement system (BI-SSSS) and BI electronic trading platform (BI-ETP) that are used to support the monetary operation of domestic and foreign currency would also remain operational.
The bank added that its Jakarta interbank offered rate (JIBOR) and Indonesia overnight index average (IndONIA) rates would also be kept updated.
Heavy rainfall since Tuesday night has caused massive flooding in several areas of Greater Jakarta, disrupting public transportation facilities, including Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in East Jakarta, toll roads, commuter line services and the Transjakarta bus network, and causing dozens of casualties.
The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded the worst rainfall in over a decade on New Year’s Eve with daily rainfall of 377 millimeters, according to an observation conducted at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in East Jakarta. (mfp)
