It was like another avalanche that hit Indonesian shuttlers in women’s singles after hopeful Fitriani and her fellow players were battered in competition and sent out of the 2020 Daihatsu Indonesia Masters badminton tournament’s openers in Jakarta on Wednesday. The Thailand Masters 2019 champion, Fitriani, lost 21-6, 21-17 to Yue Han of China in the Wednesday openers. Meanwhile, a young talent, Ruselli Hartawan, who showed potential in three international tournaments throughout 2019 by reaching their quarterfinals, also had to pack her bags early after losing to Michelle Li of Canada 21-14, 21-15. The failure of the two displays the country’s real struggle in developing its women’s singles shuttlers, which have been at the very bottom in world rankings for many years.
