ndonesia has condemned Israel’s recent military strikes in Syria as a “violation of Syria’s sovereignty”, and expressed deep concern over the escalating violence that continues to claim civilian lives amid internal unrest and foreign intervention.

The national unity and territorial integrity of Syria must be upheld, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday, urging the resolution of all conflicts through “peaceful and inclusive dialogue" that involved all elements of Syrian society.

“Indonesia calls for a permanent ceasefire between the Syrian government and the Druze community, and will continue to support the Syrian government’s efforts to achieve peace throughout Syria,” the statement said.

The latest wave of Israeli strikes on July 16 targeted multiple cities, including the southern city of Sweida and the capital Damascus.

The attacks followed the abduction of a Druze merchant on Sunday in Sweida, which sparked deadly clashes between Druze militias and Sunni Bedouin fighters. The incident prompted a response from Israel, which vowed to protect the Druze, citing alleged attacks by Syrian government forces.

The Druze people are an Arabic-speaking ethno-religious minority group who practice an offshoot of Shia Islam but do not identify as Muslim, and are spread across Syria, Lebanon and Israel.
