Life must go on but precautionary measures have to be taken. As the whole world is fighting to break the chain of coronavirus transmission, millions of people are retreating to their homes and setting up “headquarters” there. Homes have inevitably become workplaces as well as learning centers, playgrounds and even the ultimate dining destination.

Now that our lives seemingly revolve around our homes, most of us are likely to recreate experiences that we miss from going out. We attend video conferences wearing our business attire, exercise at home, sunbathe in our backyards and have fancy meals on our dining tables.

Speaking of the latter, as much as trying new recipes and cooking old family favorites are rewarding, there are times when we just want to relax and be entertained with special foods delivered to our doors. Chargrilled fish, squid and prawn with Balinese seafood barbeque sauce and sambal for Rp 262,000 (US$ 16.67), anyone? Or perhaps Singapore seafood laksa (Rp 185,000) or artisanal breads (starting from Rp 28,000)? These foods are among takeaway and delivery menu items offered by The Mulia, Mulia Resort and Villas in Nusa Dua, Bali.

The Mulia Bali, as well as a few other hotels and resorts on the island have taken to shifting their kitchen operations to cater more to takeaway and delivery demands, as social distancing has been imposed globally amid the COVID-19 outbreak.

Rainata Tjoa, director of communications, events and promotions of The Mulia Bali, told The Jakarta Post that the resort’s restaurants were still welcoming guests who would like dine in but it was adhering to the physical distancing policy and adjusting its operational hours. And as the resort shifts to promote its takeaway and delivery menu, Rainata said the most preferred items are Indonesian foods, such as nasi goreng kambing (tender lamb fried rice with green chili and pepper, Rp 121,000) and nasi bakar ikan tongkol (spicy skipjack tuna in coconut rice, grilled in banana leaf, Rp 132,000).

Another Nusa Dua-based five-star resort, the St. Regis Bali, launched “Refined Food Delivery” earlier in April. The food menu is divided into two categories, namely Beskpoke Baskets and Specialties. The former comes with instructions on the recipe card provided and can be enjoyed by friends and family. Authentic salmon bagels (Rp 480,000), for instance, are enough for four people and include a set of freshly baked bagels topped with house-smoked Tasmanian salmon, avocado, cream cheese, onion and capers. Meanwhile, Timeless BBQ (Rp 2.4 million) is inclusive of lamb chops, seafood brochettes, wagyu beef satay and chicken drumsticks with barbeque sauce, natural meat jus and sweet peanut sauce.

Looking to be more fit with healthy salad bowls? St. Regis’ sister establishment, The Laguna Resort & Spa, has just that. The rainbow salad bowl (Rp 100,000) comprises 11 plant-based ingredients, including marinated baked tofu, beetroot and green peas with turmeric peanut butter dressing. Sushi lovers could also opt for a prawn and avocado poke bowl (Rp 140,000) that features poached sweet prawns, pineapple, sushi rice with soy sesame dressing.

Thinking of an intimate picnic at your backyard already?

While these takeaway and delivery menu items are likely to end up with you throwing a lavish picnic –with the addition of champagne, prosecco or kombucha to add festivities- they could be good gift ideas for friends and families in their home isolations.

With a minimum order applicable, The Mulia provides delivery service to customers within close proximity to the resort, while the St. Regis offers free delivery to Nusa Dua, Jimbaran and Benoa. However, the latter gives a 35 percent discount for all self-pickup orders, 10 percent discount and free delivery for every order above Rp 1 million and 20 percent for Rp 2 million and above.

Living in Jimbaran and looking for takeaway closer to home? InterContinental Bali Resort offers various menu items that could be delivered using app-based food delivery service.

Quesadillas with duck confit, capsicum, avocado, mozzarella and mint yogurt (Rp 50,000), as well as fried calamari with smoked sea salt and aioli (Rp 40,000) are likely to be preferred treats during home isolation.

Meanwhile, those who are based in Sanur may consider takeaway or delivery service from Hyatt Regency’s Pizzaria. Choices of wood-fired oven pizza (Rp 105,000 – 140,000) include margherita, seafood and parmigiana, while the “make your own pasta” menu (Rp 110,000) comprises spaghetti, orecchiette and fusilli with choices of tomato, pesto or aglio olio sauce. Gluten-free pasta and pizza are also available upon request, according to a menu card shared with the Post.

Aside from taking delivery orders, the beachfront Pizzaria stays open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant, however, implements social distancing for diners with spaced out dining tables, temperature checks and face-masked servers to ensure safety.
