Political leaning

The Ummat Party is a far-right Islamic party and it proudly states that its political manifestation is identity politics.

“Without religious morality, politics will lose its course,” party chairman Ridho said.

History

An internal conflict within the National Mandate Party (PAN) gave rise to the Ummat Party.

The disagreement originated between the then PAN chief patron, Amien Rais, who advocated maintaining the party as an opposition to President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo's government, and chairman Zulkifli Hasan, who aspired to join the pro-government coalition.

During PAN's V Congress held in Kendari, Southeast Sulawesi, in February 2020, Amien supported Mulfachri Harahap as the candidate for party chairman, but Zulkifli emerged victorious.

Following disturbances during the congress, Amien referred to the event as the "congress of terrorists" and criticized it for various irregularities, particularly from Zulkifli's faction.

Loyalists of Amien urged him to establish a new party called PAN Reformasi, claiming support from six provincial party offices and 183 regional party branches for the new party's formation.

In July 2020, Amien claimed to have been expelled as a member of PAN for refusing to support the government, though this statement was refuted by PAN's deputy chairman, Viva Yoga Mauladi.

On Aug. 25, 2020, a figure from Amien's faction, Agung Mozin, indicated that they would likely declare their new party in December 2020.

Finally, on Oct. 1, 2020, through his official YouTube channel, Amien announced that his new party would be named the Ummat Party. PAN subsequently confirmed that Amien was no longer a member of the party.

The Ummat Party was officially founded on April 24, 2021, and the national declaration took place on April 29, 2021.

During the declaration, Amien Rais' son-in-law, Ridho Rahmadi, was appointed as the first party chairman.

Initially declared ineligible to participate in the 2024 elections, the party was subsequently approved as a participant after rectifying factual verification issues and undergoing the necessary corrections.

Track record on key policies

The Ummat Party does not have a single seat in the House, therefore, there is no record of its stance on key national policies.
