The provision of this facility aligns with Eximbank’s mandate as a government agency to support gastrodiplomacy through the export of services through commercial entities.
The financially troubled Indonesian Export Financing Agency (LPEI), known as Indonesia Eximbank, has suffered from another round of bad debts, resulting from fraud. Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati recently submitted a report of fraud at the bank involving four borrowers, amounting to Rp 2.5 trillion, to the Attorney General’s Office (AGO). More problems are expected to be revealed as more borrowers also fall under the AGO’s investigation.
Amid sluggish export growth in the first quarter, Eximbank has set its eyes on new priorities as the lender is set to disburse Rp 111 trillion (US$7.69 billion), or only a 2 percent growth this year, from Rp 108 trillion they channeled last year.
Indonesia Eximbank, also known as the Indonesian Export Financing Institution (LPEI), signed on Wednesday a sharia financing agreement with plantation company PT MedcoPapua Hijau Selaras (MPHS) in an effort to boost exports of palm oil products from Manokwari, West Papua.
