View all search resultsNGOs are rallying against a number of B20 diesel fuel suppliers of state-owned energy giant Pertamina, whose rap sheet allegedly includes land clearing and triggering forest fires to make room for oil palm plantations in the region
Out of five renewable energy sources being developed in Indonesia, bioenergy saw the most progress this year as Indonesia escalated a policy mandating the use of biofuel-blended diesel. Otherwise, renewable energy development and investments are poised to fall behind annual targets.
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has asked stakeholders to speed up the mandatory proportion of diesel blended with crude palm oil (CPO) from 20 (B20) to 30 percent (B30) by January next year, and 50 percent (B50) by the end of 2020, hence pushing up the domestic use of palm oil.Coincidentally, China will remove import tariffs for palm oil in a move that will open up new markets for Indonesian palm oil.
While the government expanded the mandatory use of a 20 percent biodiesel blend (B20) in September, it plans to further boost domestic biodiesel consumption to absorb more crude palm oil (CPO) amid fluctuation in the global market price of the commodity.
