ede's face lit up. The second grade student was standing beside a round fountain at Central Java's Development Promotion Fair (PRPP Jateng), also known as the Jateng Fair, in Semarang on Monday night. As the fountain jetted water into the air during a dynamic laser show accompanied by a recording of ABBA's "Dancing Queen," hundreds of spectators surrounding the site cheered happily.
The heavy rain that had recently poured down in the area did not repel visitors from marveling at the Dancing Fountain, an entertainment show that is being presented at the Jateng Fair between Aug. 5 and Sept. 4. Brought from China, the fountain has become the event's main attraction.
"I love [the show] very much. It was my first time seeing a dancing water performance," said Dede who came with his uncle.
"It's also my first time watching a dancing fountain. Is it true that it's the best in the country? I heard other cities also have such attractions, but not as good as this one," said Dede's uncle, Santo.
The Jateng Fair's Dancing Fountain offers several displays, from spraying straight up before falling into a dome shape, to spraying elegantly like a dancer moving its body. It also has a feature in which water suddenly jets into a screen-like formation from the middle of the fountain. There are also other surprises such as bursts of flame and laser shows featuring various animations. The show is accompanied by entertaining songs from a variety of genres, including dangdut, Western, Korean and traditional songs, with each session lasting for 15 minutes.

"Do you want more?!" asked the show's hosts, Fanny and Ety, to the crowd.
"Yes!" yelled the spectators.
PRPP Jateng director Titah Listiorini told The Jakarta Post that the fountain was installed by 10 foreign workers from China 10 days prior to the fair's opening. "Afterward, the fountain is maintained by six local workers. This dancing fountain is indeed the greatest [of its kind] in Indonesia. Other cities may have similar attractions, but none as complete as this one," he said.
The show is available every night at 7:30 p.m, 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and at 11 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Entry tickets to the fair are Rp 15,000 (US$1.13) per person Monday-Friday and Rp 20,000 on weekends.
In addition to the Dancing Fountain, the fair also boasts around 500 booths featuring local products, children's playgrounds, pop music performances by 57 local artists and art performances from 35 regions in Central Java. (kes)
