n a bid to attract tourists, the Syrian Tourism Ministry has posted a promotional video that comes with popular TV series Game of Thrones’ acoustic cover as background music.

The one-minute long video, which was posted on the ministry's official Facebook page at the end of September, portrays Aleppo, the largest city in the country, as a peaceful destination. The fully intact buildings, green boulevards and swimming pools are presumably located in the area run by the government.

Syria is embroiled in a civil war that started in early 2011 due to ongoing conflict between the Assad family regime that has ruled the country since 1971 and their opposition.

Choosing the Game of Thrones’ theme song as background music seems ironic, CNN noted, as the HBO television series follows a story of civil war and is popularly known for its violent content. (kes)
